Authorities have intensified their crackdown on petroleum smuggling and the illegal distribution of fuel, shutting down around 2,500 illegal petrol pumps across the country. The action was discussed during a weekly meeting on Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) reforms, chaired by Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif in Islamabad on Friday.

The crackdown is aimed at curbing the illegal movement and sale of petroleum products, which contributes to revenue losses and undermines the formal fuel distribution system. The use of technology is also part of broader efforts to strengthen FBR enforcement, improve tax compliance, increase transparency, and reduce illicit economic activity.
