Pakistan once again foils India’s attempt to acquire UNSC permanent seat.
UNSC accepts Pakistan stance to not grant India permanent status. India requires two-thirds support of general assembly members for UNSC permanent seat. Due to opposition of UFC group, G-4 countries failed to approve agenda. Pakistan foiled Indian efforts to acquire a permanent seat in United Nation Security Council (UNSC), Geo News reported, citing sources. Pakistan once again opposed granting India permanent status at the UNSC meeting. Pakistan’s stance was accepted and UNSC decided that intergovernmental negotiations (IGN) will continue during its upcoming 77th session on extending permanent seats. According to the sources, the G-4 group, including Japan, Brazil, Germany, and India applied pressure to start a debate, however, a Pakistan and Italy-led 12-member Unity for Consensus (UFC) group opposed the enlargement of UNSC permanent members.
